March Book Haul

I was able to buy some books before we went into lock down. I also ordered some books from book outlet because they had a spring sale and I just couldn't resist. As usual I will use Good Reads for the Synopsis. I hope you like the book choose and let me know if you have read these books.

 This is really not a book but a booklet about a readathon that is coming in May. It is a 2 week readathon and happens the first 2 week of May. It is about reading middle grade books. I will put in the announcement down below. I was able to order this book from Amazon.

 This book I order through Amazon but it came from Book Depository. I actually ordered this book in February and didn't get until early March. It isn't out in the US yet so that is why it took so long. The funny thing is I got approved to read the e-arc from NetGalley just after I ordered the book.

 This is the newest book in the Hannah Swensen series. My book is signed and has an exclusive recipe in it. I am still behind on her books but I am slowly catching up.

 This is the newest Sarah J. Maas book. It is an adult fantasy. I haven't read any of her other books but I just want to give her try. Bound by blood.

 Cassandra Clare's newest book. I have read most of her books. I still have a couple I need to read and people say I need to finish the series before this one before I read this new series. Chain of Gold is the first novel in a new trilogy that stars the Shadowhunters of Edwardian London.

 I bought this book from Wal-Mart. I have heard mixed things about this book. I don't listen to many of the nah Sayers because I have found that my interest is different from a lot of them. The Gemini Thief could be anyone. Your father, your mother, your best friend’s crazy uncle. Some country music star’s deranged sister. Anyone.

The Gemini Thief is a serial kidnapper, who takes three boys and holds them captive from June 1st to June 30th of the following year. The June Boys endure thirteen months of being stolen, hidden, observed, and fed before they are released, unharmed, by their masked captor. The Thief is a pro, having eluded authorities for nearly a decade and taken at least twelve boys.

Now Thea Delacroix has reason to believe the Gemini Thief took a thirteenth victim: her cousin, Aulus McClaghen.

But the game changes when one of the kidnapped boys turns up dead. Together with her boyfriend Nick and her best friends, Thea is determined to find the Gemini Thief and the remaining boys before it’s too late.  I have heard a lot of good things about this book. Both Tara and John like this book so that puts it high on my list for me to read.  There is a dark secret that is hiding at the heart of New York City and diminishing the city’s magicians’ power in this fantasy thriller by acclaimed author Kat Howard.

In New York City, magic controls everything. But the power of magic is fading. No one knows what is happening, except for Sydney—a new, rare magician with incredible power that has been unmatched in decades, and she may be the only person who is able to stop the darkness that is weakening the magic. But Sydney doesn’t want to help the system, she wants to destroy it.

Sydney comes from the House of Shadows, which controls the magic with the help of sacrifices from magicians.

 I was surprised to be able to find a complete series for sale on book outlet. Usually I have to make two orders to finish purchasing a series. I have heard mixed things about this series also so of course I have to find out for myself.  Mortals rule the desert nation of Miraji, but mythical beasts still roam the wild and remote areas, and rumor has it that somewhere, djinn still perform their magic.  For humans, it’s an unforgiving place, especially if you’re poor, orphaned, or female.

Amani Al’Hiza is all three. She’s a gifted gunslinger with perfect aim, but she can’t shoot her way out of Dustwalk, the back-country town where she’s destined to wind up wed or dead.

Then she meets Jin, a rakish foreigner, in a shooting contest, and sees him as the perfect escape route. But though she’s spent years dreaming of leaving Dustwalk, she never imagined she’d gallop away on mythical horse—or that it would take a foreign fugitive to show her the heart of the desert she thought she knew.

 Book Three. When gunslinging Amani Al'Hiza escaped her dead-end town, she never imagined she'd join a revolution, let alone lead one.  I have not heard good things about this book. I could have gotten this book from The Book of The Month club but wanted other books instead so I was able to find it on book outlet for about $6. The Author has a You Tube Channel.  Shane has been doing college all wrong. Pre-med, stellar grades, and happy parents…sounds ideal—but Shane's made zero friends, goes home every weekend, and romance…what’s that?

Her life has been dorm, dining hall, class, repeat. Time's a ticking, and she needs a change—there's nothing like moving to a new country to really mix things up. Shane signs up for a semester abroad in London. She's going to right all her college mistakes: make friends, pursue boys, and find adventure!

Easier said than done. She is soon faced with the complicated realities of living outside her bubble, and when self-doubt sneaks in, her new life starts to fall apart.

Shane comes to find that, with the right amount of courage and determination one can conquer anything. Throw in some fate and a touch of magic—the possibilities are endless. 

 I have the first book and needed the second and final book in this duology. One of the authors also has a You Tube Channel. Again I haven't heard good things about this book but I don't let that bother me.  Her ship is gone, her crew is captured and notorious mercenary Androma Racella is no longer the powerful Bloody Baroness, but a fugitive ruthlessly hunted across the Mirabel Galaxy. The bloodthirsty Queen Nor now rules most of the galaxy through a mind-control toxin and she’ll stop at nothing to destroy her most hated adversary.

Andi will risk anything, even her precious freedom, to find a cure. Stranded with her unlikely ally, Dex, on the unforgiving ice planet of Solera, their plan to infiltrate a black-market city proves dangerously irresistible.

The last book that I purchased for the month. Again I could have gotten this book from The Book of the Month but there are always other books that catch my eye more. I have heard great things about this book.  Project Runway meets Mulan in this sweeping YA fantasy about a young girl who poses as a boy to compete for the role of imperial tailor and embarks on an impossible journey to sew three magic dresses, from the sun, the moon, and the stars.

Maia Tamarin dreams of becoming the greatest tailor in the land, but as a girl, the best she can hope for is to marry well. When a royal messenger summons her ailing father, once a tailor of renown, to court, Maia poses as a boy and takes his place. She knows her life is forfeit if her secret is discovered, but she'll take that risk to achieve her dream and save her family from ruin. There's just one catch: Maia is one of twelve tailors vying for the job.

Backstabbing and lies run rampant as the tailors compete in challenges to prove their artistry and skill. Maia's task is further complicated when she draws the attention of the court magician, Edan, whose piercing eyes seem to see straight through her disguise.
