Book Haul #2

Yes here is another book haul.  I know I have a problem buying books but sometimes the library doesn't have the books I want. Roomies is a book I have been wanting to read for a while since I read her book Autoboyography. The other book Aryan let me pick out since he earned the book at the library. They didn't have anything he wanted. I just got this book because it was pretty.
These books I got from book outlet. They had a sale of 15% off and I also had a $5 coupon. I only spent $35.00 for all of these books. Missing in Action is about an Indian boy who dad is missing in action in WWII. I actually just bought this book because of the author. I like Dean Hughes writing.
Shen of the Sea was bought because it was one of the Newbury books that I didn't have. I have already read this book. Foolish Hearts was a cover buy. Don't know much about it. River of Time is a book about Naomi Judd. I enjoyed her when she was singing with her daughter. Want to read about her. Bury my heart at wounded knee is a history book. It is an Indian History of the American West. I enjoy history so bought this book. Laura Ingalls Wilder a Biography I don't think I need to say why I bought this book. Her books are the ones that got me really into reading. I have always been a reader but her books are the ones I remember the most. The Great Influenza is about the 1918 Flu. Again another history book. I love history and I want to know about this flu. I have been reading a lot about this flu and I saw this book and decided to get it. The last book I bought I have already read. I've Got You Under My Skin is another Mary Higgins Clark book. I am trying to get all of her books. I used to have them all but when money was tight I sold them to half price books so I could pay my bills. It is nice to be able to replace them even though they aren't first editions. That is okay with me.
I hope these give you some reading ideas.
Until next time keep reading.

June 17th - June 23rd weekly reads

I only read four books this week. The books totaled 1432 pages.
Every Breath You Take I gave 5 stars. I just love reading Mary Higgins Clark books. She is such a talented writer. This is the 4th (I think) book in this series. Each one is better than the last. This series of books is about a reality show that tries to solve unsolved murders. They research which murder they want to try to solve and get everyone who was investigated and family members together and ask them questions and their insight into what happen. They try to get old cases but this book went into a more recent case so wasn't really a cold case like they normally do. You have to read the book and you will be hooked.
The Kiss Quotient was also a 5 star book. This book has some spicy scenes so beware when you read it. The female main character has autism and wants to learn to be more social. She doesn't do well with a lot of people and uncontrollable events. She hires an escort to teach her how to be more social and to be able to have a relationship. This book is hard to describe because a lot is happening but it was such a great book. This is a debut novel and the author did a fantastic job. You won't be able to put the book down. I couldn't.
First We Were IV I gave 4.5 stars. This is a young adult book about four friends. These four friends make a club to try to make some changes in the little town they live in. A murder happened at the beginning  of the book that nothing was done about it. They want to give this girl who was killed some closure but things happen along the way with this group of friends. I enjoyed the book but I did have a problem with how they went about getting justice for this Jane Doe. Fare warning there is bullying in this book.
Moll Flanders I gave 2.5 stars. This is a classic and it was slow going. I didn't like it and was confused and got lost a few times while to read it. Maybe because it was written in the 18th century.
I haven't given up on reading classics but I am finding I am not enjoying them much. I will give them this though the books don't have much cussing in them. That is a change for my eyes and mind.
Until next time keep reading.

Book Haul

Yes it is another book haul. I am always buying more books than I can read. I really like having books around and having a different variety to chose from. I don't know to much about these books so will give a brief from the book's covers. The Death of Mrs. Westaway  by Ruth Ware  is about a lady who receives a letter in the mail saying her Grandmother has passed away and left her a substantial inheritance, but her grandmother passed years ago. What does she do? Sounds like a mystery to me and it is what I like to read. Legendary is the second book to a series that I haven't started yet. Just bought the book because I have the first one. Reaper at the Gates is the third book to the Ember in the Ashes series. Which I haven't read yet. I actually bought this series for Aryan. Don't know if he has the first book yet. I do have the second book also. I think there will a fourth book but don't know. I was able to get a few book mark with this book. Love and other Words by: Christina Lauren is a book I would like to give a try. I have heard great things about this book. It is a romance book. I do read romance t not very often. I have read one book from this author already which was called Autoboyography and I loved it. I am hoping to enjoy more books from them. Yes this book is written by two people they just combine their names. It is summer time so maybe I should read a little out of norm. The Ancient Sacred Tree Birthing A Hero is a middle grade book by an unknown author. This is the first book to a new series. I have Beta read the second book but can't go into any details since it isn't ready to be published yet. I bought this book so that I could understand the second book better. You will enjoy this series because she uses a lot of detail and enjoyable. So the first book is a boy named Joshua who has bipolar and just learns some disturbing news about his parents. He is flung into a world of intrigue and danger where he must fight for his life and the lives of the inhabitants. He discovers he has secret powers. His newly found friends and family help him through his adventure Magic Hour by: Kristin Hannah is  the Olympic National Forest in the Pacific Northwest.  In this forest a six- year-old girl emerges from it speechless and alone, she offers no clue as to he identity, no hint of her past. This is another mystery so this is all you get. This is the fourth book of hers I own and yes I haven't read any of them. Finally the little booklet is about Laura Ingalls Wilder. I have always been fascinated by her since I read her books while in elementary school. The booklet is titled Who Really Saved Laura Ingalls: Sold du Chene or a soldat du chien? He is mentioned in her book Little House on the Prairie.
Those are the books that I have purchased thus far this month. There will probably be more I am sure.
Until next time keep read.

June 10th through June 16th

Another post of weekly reads.  I read 6 books on this busy week. Two of the books were graphic novels so they read quickly. They both received 4 stars. I really enjoyed them. This means I have finally finished the Lunar Chronicles Series. I enjoyed this series even though it was some what science fiction. I also finished the book of Poems by Robert Frost. I gave it 3 stars. Poetry is ok but again I'm not to much into it. I finally read the October library book club book. I was in Connecticut when they talked about A Piece of the World. I only gave this book 3 stars. I was a little disappointed because I loved her book The Orphan Train.

84, Charing Cross RoadDolores Claiborne
These two books I listened to on audio.  I gave 84, Charing Cross Road 3 stars and Dolores Claiborne 3.5 stars. The first book was short and was more of a diary style book which is okay but didn't make since to me. Might have to read it physically. Stephen King books I always listened to. Mike recommended this book because he wants me to watch the movie also. I'm not impressed with this book. It was not scary but I got a little lost in the story with who she is. I thought she was a maid but it kept jumping around. So far this book is the second non scary book of his I have read. My favorite book by him so far is Shawshank redemption. So total pages read this week were 1616 and 6 books.
Until next time keep reading.

June TBR

Here is what I plan on reading for the month of June. Two of them I just posted yesterday that I have already read for the first week of June. Those books are Paper Girls volume 3 and Saga volume 1. I have also finished two more as of the writing of this post and they are El Deafo and Wire and Nerve volume 2. As you have probably already figured out I have flown through the graphic novels quickly. There is one more and that is called Monstress Volume 1. The stack of three books are The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, Furyborn, and Undead Girl Gang. I am trying to read one of my Book of the Month books every month; that pile is getting big and I need to start reading them. I also have I capture the castle and First we were IV that I would like to get read this month. I have started First we were IV. I am about 75 pages in. As always I will keep you posted in my weekly reads where I am at on my TBR. I am also trying to get caught up on some of my past TBR's. Oh I forgot I want to read Moll Flanders. Two of these books on this TBR are Classics, lets see how I feel about them. It seems I haven't enjoyed classics lately. I haven't given up on them yet. I hope this gives you ideas on what to read. If you have any of these books and would like to buddy read with just comment below.
Until next time keep reading.

June 1st thru June 9th Reads

They Both Die at the EndThe Husband: A NovelLies That Bind UsThese are the books that I read for the first nine days of June. Three were audiobooks, one was partly a physical read and I finished it off as an audio because the book was bad. As you can see two were graphic novels and one I read to David. The book that was bad is The Essex Serpent. This was the library book club book for March and no one liked it. I tried to read it and got a little over 100 pages read and just couldn't pick it back up so I decided to give the audio book a try. I did finish it through the audio but it isn't a good at all. This book will be leaving the house even though it has a beautiful cover. The Beast and the Stone is the third book to a series that David I read last year. This is the last book to the series. David loves this series. It has a great ending and a lot of action in the story to get to that ending. I would recommend that you have your middle grader read this series. The Husband I listened to on audio. At first I thought it would be like Gone Girl but was greatly surprise when it turned nothing like that book. I didn't like Gone Girl. The Husband has to find his wife who has been kidnap and they want 2 million dollars to have her returned. Later on they change the price to 8 million. It tells you what he does and how he handles going about getting things done. It was a great book. I have never read anything by Dean Koontz before. The Clockwork Princess is the last book in this series and I have to say I didn't like this series at all. I prefer her Mortal Instrument series a lot more. This series was really slow moving and boring.  Lies that Bind Us was on my Kindle. This is a thriller and I liked this book. I got this book as a first read from amazon prime, so it was free for me and I am glad I chose this book. It is about a lady who goes back to Crete after 5 years to have a reunion with some friends she met there. The book starts out with her bound to a wall in a small room and she can't remember how she got there. The story is told in flash backs and reveals a lot of who she is and how she got there. I don't want to say much more because this is a thriller. They Both die in the end was another audio book. It talks about how the population is controlled by a society and that they can die within 24 hours after they receive a phone call. They usually find a friend who also dies with in the same time frame. They do a lot of things that they normally wouldn't do and wonder how they will die. It was very interesting.
Now for my star ratings. I gave They Both Die At The End 4 stars, Saga Volume One 3.5 stars, Beast Of Stone 3.5 stars, The Husband 4 stars, Clockwork Princess 3 stars, Paper Girls Volume 3 4 stars Lies That Bind Us 5 stars and The Essex Serpent 2 stars. This week total pages read came to 2702. This was a good week and a half. I hope everyone is able to get some reading done this coming week.

May book haul

This month I bought a lot of books. So let's get started. These four books I bought at the thrift store. Two of the books have been read already but wanted them. I heard a lot about Kristin Hannah and saw this book so picked it up. This makes three books of hers that I own but still haven't them. All the single ladies just looked interesting so want to give it a try. The other two books I have read a while ago.
These two books I bought at the grocery store while I was shopping. They are both middle grade books. The burning maze is the third book to a series that Aryan owns. The other book is Rick Riodan Present book. This is something new he is dong. His goal is to publish highly entertaining books by authors from under-represented cultures and backgrounds, to allow them to tell their own stories inspired by the mythology, folklore, and culture of their heritage. Since we like his writing we want to check out this book.
These thee books I ordered off the Barnes and Noble website since I had a coupon for online orders only. I heard a lot about these books so again I want to give them a try. One is the first book of a series. I now have a lot of series I need to read. Did they stop making stand alone books.
This was a trip to Barnes and Noble for the memorial day sale. Surprising enough these books didn't cost much. Most of them were in the bargain section. As you can see there is a lot of variety in the books. I am a mood reader so I need to keep it interesting. I also read to my youngest and he needs variety also. I hope this gives you some ideas on what to read in the future and until next time keep reading.

May 21st - May 31st Reads

I have decided to add the last ten days of May reading into one post. So for the week of the 21st I really only read 3 books, It wasn't a good week for reading.  The first book I read was Big Little Lies by: Liane Moriarty. I loved this book. If I had the time I would have read it in one day but that didn't happen. I gave it 5 stars. The 2nd book I read was The Hate U Give By: Angie Thomas. I also like this book. I gave it 4.5 stars. This book gives you some insight on some racial issues and how it affects certain people. This story is told by a teenage girl. It goes into how she deals with what is happening and how she deals with the death of two of her friends which she has witness. I do recommend this book because I think everyone needs to know this information.
The last book I read this week was Christmas Caramel Murder by: Joanne Fluke. Yes I know it isn't that time of year but it was on a past TBR so needed to be read. This book was another great read this week. I gave it 5 stars. This story was told as a story to Hannah's date in a dining room. This was a different opening for her and I enjoyed it. The total pages read this week were 1108.

These past few days were a lot better in reading. I have been able to read a book a day. As you can see the majority has been graphic novels so they were quick reads. There are two books not pictured above. I read the first two volumes of the graphic novel called Paper Girls. I was surprised that I enjoyed them. I gave both of them a 4 star rating. LumberJane volume 2 was an okay graphic novel. I read the first two volume a while ago and wasn't thrilled with them back then and still not so I will not finish this series. I gave this novel a 3 star rating. I did enjoy the drawings. The last graphic novel is Mercury. I gave this novel a 4.25 rating. This had a dual time line and some history mixed in so I really enjoyed it. I didn't like how the novel ended. Left you hanging or wondering what they did next. The other book that isn't shown that I read/ listened to was A Song Of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin. I only gave it 3 stars. This book was way to long in my opinion. I haven't decided if I will continue on with the series. The last book I read is The Wanderer By: Sharon Creech. I gave this book 3.5 stars. It was okay and interesting but I didn't like this one compared to her other books.
The total pages for these last few days  were 1785.
So for the month of May I read a total of 7193 pages. Which comes out to 232 pages a day. Total number of books read were 24. Not a bad month of reading. Until next time keep reading.
