May 13th-20th reads

I didn't get much read this week. Two of the books I have been reading for a while but finally finished them.
The Clockwork Prince By: Cassandra Clare, I only listened to in the car while driving around. I gave this book only 3 stars. I am finishing this series even though it isn't one of my favorites of hers.
The Umbrella Man By: Roald Dahl, this is a collection of short stories he has written in his earlier years. Over all I gave it 3 stars. Only two of the stories I gave 4.5 stars to. for the most part most of the stories were 3 stars. I really liked Parson's Pleasure and Katrina. You should read these.
The last book I read this week was Obsidio By: Amy Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. It is the final book to the Illuminae Series. I gave this book 5 stars. It did take most of the week to read because I was busy. If I didn't have stuff to do it would have only taken me one day. I highly recommend that everyone should read this series. This is coming from someone who isn't into sci-fi.
These three books added up to 1396 pages for one week. That isn't bad at all.  In case you are wondering why I have a Jolly Time bag in the back ground is to let you know that I usually eat popcorn while I am reading.
While until next time keep reading.

May 6-12 reads

Here is what I read this past week. It was a pretty good reading week. There were a few short book which made it easy to read a lot.
Beneath the Sugar Sky  by: Seanan McGuire is the third book in a series that I picked a few months ago. I love this series and have posted a review on the first book. I recommend this series. I gave this book 4 stars. She will be coming out with additional books to this series. The Magic Misfits by: Neil Patrick Harris. I gave this book 4 stars. I read this to David. This is Neil's second book that I know of that he has written. I read his autobiography last summer and enjoyed it. He has started a new series for middle graders and it was a good book. I would recommend this for your children. It is about magic and he even teaches you a couple of tricks. The big blue book I only read one story out of it. I just wanted the one but had to buy this big thing to get it. The story is Mistborn: Secret History by Brandon Sanderson. I gave this book 3 stars. This story will be hard to talk about because it gives a lot away. It is about Kelsier and that is all I can tell you. There is one more book to this series that comes out in October. Dracula by: Bram Stoker is a classic that I have been wanting to read. I actually listened to this on audiobook. It was okay. Not really my thing. I gave this book 3 stars.
I only read The Red Pony by: John Steinbeck. I read the other earlier. I didn't like this book. He didn't left out some information and left you wondering on what happened. I was disappointed. I only gave this book 3 stars and this because I like him but not this short story. Stargirl by: Jerry Spinelli only received 3 stars from me. I am still trying to figure out what he was intending when he wrote this book. This book didn't make since to me. It was based in a high school and how children treat each one another. Which isn't always nice, but a fact of life. Madison Avenue Shoot ( Murder She Wrote) by : Jessica Fletcher and Donald Bain. I gave this book 4 stars. I just loved watching Murder She Wrote when I was growing up and as a young mother. As you know I love me a mystery story and this was one of those. This one was based in New York while visiting her nephew and his family. A big shot agent manager is found dead on a photo shoot. It goes from there on how they get clues and figure who did it.

Starry Night: A Christmas NovelThis book was the best book I read this week. I gave it 5 stars. This author is a hit or miss with me. The book takes place in Alaska for the most part. It is about a journalist trying to interview a author of a best selling book. The author doesn't want to be found or interview. She finds him and ends up being stranded for a couple of days do to bad weather. She ends up getting to know him better and it goes from there. I would recommend this book it was great.
That is what I read last week. I hope this gives you some reading ideas.
Until next time keep reading.

May Book Of The Month Books

It's that time of month again. I received my books from Book of the month earlier this week. I just love this book club. The first book is $14.99 and each additional book was only $9.99 each. That is a great price for hardback books. The shipping is also free for the US. Oh, you can only get three books each month as the max and you can skip a month if you don't see a book that you like. They always have five books to choose from and I have a hard picking. You can also pick up books from the months before if they still have them available. If you are interested in trying them out here is my referral link. https://www.mybotm.com/0cxpwrpoiqlivn29
Onto the books that I picked for the month. My $14.99 book is The Perfect Mother by Aimee Molloy.  They call themselves the May Mothers-a group of new moms whose babies were born in the same month. They get together twice a week for some mom time. On one get together one of the mom' doesn't want to leave her baby but her friends encourage her to gout with them. When she gets home her baby is missing from the crib. As you can tell this is a mystery so that is all you get for now. The first part of the description I got from the book cover.
The next two books I got for $9.99 each.
Still Lives by: Maria Hummel is another mystery book. This book is about art and artist. This time art doesn't go missing but the artist does. Where does she go and why.  This book is less than 300 pages so I hope she does a great job in wrapping up this mystery.
Small Country By: Gael Faye is a very short book. It is only 183 pages. This is a memoir of a boy in a small country of Africa. It is about Burundi and neighboring Rwanda, when they are hit with civil war and genocide. I would like to know how a child felt during this time and how they survived.

I hope you give them a try. I know you will enjoy them like I do. You cant beat the price for hardbacks.
Until next time kep reading.

May1st through May 5th

These are the three books that I read last week. I was actually able to take a book off of a back TBR list. That book was Little Fires Everywhere by: Celeste Ng. I only gave this book 3 stars because she had too many people in the story. I did like the book though. I will go more into this book in a review  plan to do. The next book The Alchemist By: Paul Coelho I also gave 3 stars. The book was ok but I didn't like his writing. This book was about a shepherd boy who travels from Spain to the Egyptian desert in search of a treasure buried in the Pyramids. The last book pictured is The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and I gave it 2 stars. This book is old and falling apart sorry about it not having a cover but it doesn't matter because I won't be keeping it. I did not like this at all. I remember trying to watch the movie a few years ago and I didn't finish the movie either. At last I finished the book. I was so hoping the book would be better but it wasn't. In total I read 718 pages.
Not a very good week for me and no can't put the down for me. Hopefully this week will be better for me. Until next time keep reading.

May TBR

This is out just a little late but not too late.  I am making this list small because I am not sure what the month will bring. Some of these have been on a previous list before.  I am trying to get them read but always change my mind. Obsidio is the finally book in a trilogy that I want to finish. This is a sci-fi book and it is unusual for me to read sci-fi but I love this series. It is a quick read even though the books are over 600 pages. Beneath the Sugar Sky is also another book in a series that I want to get read this month and it has been on a previous list. This is a the third book in a series and more to come but we don't know how many more. This is a short so shouldn't take me long to read once I seat down to read. This next book has also been on a previous list and that s Christmas Caramel Murder, again this is a short book and it is a cozy mystery. History is all you left is the next book which has been on a previous list also that I would like to read. As you can tell I didn't do well last month on catching up so I am extending it and adding a few different ones to my list. This next book is new to my list and that is The Wanderer by Sharon Creech. It is about a teenage girl who goes sailing with her three uncles and two cousins. They are sailing across the Atlantic going towards England. This is a middle grade book and should be another fast read. The next book my daughter loaned to me in November when I was in Connecticut and I really need to get this read. It is Plum Island by Nelson DeMille. I don't know anything about this book. Flowers For Algernon is another book I have heard about for so long that I have decided it was time to try to read it. I have decided to throw in a classic even though I am discovering that a lot of classic I am not liking. Hopefully Dracula by Bram Stoke will be a good choice. The last book on this list is The Red Pony by John Steinbeck. He is a hit or miss author for me. I am hoping this short story will be good. The Pearl which is with this book was okay but not my favorite. I know that I will read other books also but I am hoping that I get these books read as well. I hope these books give you an idea of what to pick up next.So until next time keep reading.

April's Page Habit Box

You probably noticed that I didn't get a Page Habit box in March. I decided for the month of March that I would skip the box. I am now almost back on complete track of things so started up my box again.
This month's box as normal is the mystery box. The picture isn't all that great but gives you a clue of what came in the box. I just love the socks. We also received a pencil with a cat peeking out of a box. It is super cute. The book has a quote from Victor Hugo which says To learn to read is to light a fire every syllable that is spelled out is a spark. We also received a card with two poems on it. The poems are by Lily Bollinger. I have never heard of her. I kind of miss the little sampler books, they were quick reads and small enough to stick in my purse. This month's book is Why Kill the Innocent by: C.S. Harris. I have never read any of her books either. This book is based in the early 1800's in London during winter. It is about the murder of a young girl with ties to the Prince. That is all I will tell you because it is a mystery and we need to keep it a mystery until we read it.
Page Habit is currently taking submissions for original content to be published and they want to hear from you. So if you are a writer your book could be a book for their upcoming boxes. Just go to their website which is www.pagehabit.com/submit for more information.
This month donations of books went to Burundi. This little country is located in the heart of Africa. It is the third poorest country in the world. The country is actually shaped like a heart.
If you are interested in getting a box just use my referral code down below.

What I read the last weeks of April

Here are the books I read in the last weeks of April. Two of these books I read to David. Booked by Kwame Alexander and Buffalo Bill. These two books I gave 4 stars . We actually enjoyed these books. Booked is written in verse and he does a great job. War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy I listened to on audiobook. I didn't like this book, so only gave it 2 stars. I remember my Dad reading this book while growing up. A friend at Midnight by Caroline Cooney I read in one day. I enjoyed this book and gave it 4 stars. My younger girls enjoy her books. I have read quite a few of them.

By Vanessa Diffenbaugh:The Language of Flowers: A Novel [Hardcover]
This book I read for the library book club. I enjoyed this one and gave it 4 stars. This book is about a girl who was raised in the foster care system her whole life. It did take me a while to get use to the way she wrote this book. One chapter was about her current life and then the next chapter was a flash back. There was no heading on the chapter to let you know this.
The total pages for the last weeks of April was 2452. I read 13 books in April which totaled 4607 pages. This was a better reading month for me than March.
