This is a very good book. I gave it 4 stars. This is a historical fiction on a true event but the characters are fictional. This is a story of the blizzard that happen on January 12, 1888. It is called the children's blizzard because of the many lives of children that were taken by this storm. This is only the second book I have about this event. The author did a great job telling about the day of the storm and what the aftermath was. She also goes into some detail about the days leading up to the storm. Please read this book and any other book you can find on this subject. It is an unheard of event that I only recently heard about. This is mostly about the immigrants who came to this country for a better life and they just didn't know what they were up against. The author tells about the people of color and what they went through and the tough discussion that the young female teachers had to make. Some made the right decision but some didn't not. There is a story of the one who made the right choice and one who did not. What would you do in this event? To be honest with you I wouldn't know what I would do. Put yourself in their shoes. I highly recommend that you read this book it will change your outlook.
