This is the first time I have been back to my favorite thrift store to buy books since Covid-19. I bought 26 books for $46.13 which means each book cost me little more than $1.77 each. I consider that a great deal. Most of these books are series that I am working on or about to start but waiting until I have the complete series. Now onto the books.
All Around The Town By: Mary Higgins Clark.
I have already read this book but didn't own in hardback.
This is what the book cover has to say.
Laurie Kenyon, a twenty-one-year-old college senior, is accused of murdering her English Professor, Allan Grant. When he is found stabbed to death, her fingerprints are everywhere-on the door, on the curtain, on the knife.
Arraigned on a murder charge, a shocked and bewildered Laurie has no memory of the crime. Traumatized by abuse she suffered after she was kidnapped at the age of four and held for two years, she has developed multiple personalities. Laurie, the host personality, does not know that others coexist with her, nor is she aware that one of her alternates, Leona, has been writing Allan Grant crazed love letters and secretly entering his home.
Bic Hawkins, Laurie's abductor, an unsavory drifter, had been scratching out a living singing in taverns and acting as a fundamentalist preacher. Now he has become a celebrated television evangelist, who has achieved fame for his talent to mesmerize people. Before releasing her, Bic had threatened six-year-old Laurie with death if she ever talked about what he had done to her and, terrified, she has erased the experience from her mind.
Attorney Sarah Kenyon has quit her job as an assistant prosecutor to defend her younger sister. Sarah brings in psychiatrist Dr. Justin Donnelly, a specialist in the treatment of multiple personalities, to save her sister by unlocking the unbearable memories of her lost years that she has been suppressing.
Bic's obsession with Laurie has never diminished. Now it is rivaled by his fear of exposure. He is compelled both to be close to her and to eliminate her forever.
The Masterpiece By: Francine Rivers
I am glad I found this book because there is a read along for the month of July. This is what the book cover has to say.
A Successful Los Angeles artist, Roman Velasco appears to have everything he could possibly want-money, women, fame.. Only Grace Moore, his reluctant, newly hired personal assistant, knows how little he truly has. The demons of Roman's past seem to echo through the halls of his empty mansion and out across his breathtaking Topanga Canyon view. But Grace doesn't know how her boss secretly wrestles with those demons: by tagging buildings as the Bird, a notorious but unidentified graffiti artist-an alter ego that could destroy his career and land him in prison.
Like Roman, Grace is wrestling with ghosts and secrets of her own. After a disastrous marriage threw her life completely off course, she vowed never to let love steal her dreams again. But as she gets to know the enigmatic man behind the reputation, it's as if the jagged pieces of both of their pasts slowly begin to fit together...until something so unexpected happens that it changes the course of their relationship-and both their lives-forever.
The Girl Behind The Red Rope By: Ted and Rachelle Dekker
I am glad I found this because there is a buddy read for this coming up in August or September.
The book cover says.
Ten years ago, Grace saw something that would forever change the course of history.
When a terrible scourge is unleashed on the world, she and others from their religious community are already hidden deep in the hills of Tennessee, abiding by every rule that will keep them safe, pure-and alive. As long as they stay there, behind the red rope.
Her older brother's questions and the arrival of the first outsiders she's seen in a decade set in motion events that will cause Grace to question everything she has built her life on. Enemies rise on all sides-but who is the real enemy? And what will it cost her to uncover the truth?
The Way of Kings By: Brandon Sanderson
Some family members want me to read this book and I am glad I was able to find it. It is actually the next book I need to read. This is what the book cover has to say.
I long for the days before the Last Desolation. Before the Heralds abandoned us and the Knights Radiant turned against us. When there was still magic in Roshar and honor in the hearts of men.
In the end, not war but victory proved the greater test. Did or foes see that the harder they fought, the fiercer our resistance? Fire and hammer forge a sword; time and neglect rust it away. So we won the world, yet lost it.
Now there are four whom we watch: the surgeon, forced to forsake healing and fight in the most brutal war of our time; the assassin, who weeps as he kills; the liar, who wears her scholar's mantle over a thief's heart; and the prince, whose eyes open to the ancient past as his thirst for battle wanes.
One of them may redeem us. One of them will destroy us.
The Simple Wild By: K. A. Tucker
I have been wanting this book for a while and so glad I found it for cheap. This is what the book cover has to say.
Calla Fletcher wasn't even two when her mother took her and fled Alaska, unable to handle the isolation of the extreme, rural lifestyle behind Calla's father, Wren Fletcher, in the process. Calla never looked back, and at twenty-six, a busy life in Toronto is all she knows. But when Calla learns that Wren's days may be numbered, she knows that it's time to make the long trip back to the remote frontier town of her birth to attempt to fix their estranged relationship.
She braves the roaming wildlife, the odd daylight hours, the exorbitant prices, and even the occasional-dear God-outhouse, all for the chance to connect with her father: a man who, despite his many faults, she can't help but care for. While she struggles to adjust to this rugged new environment, Jonah-the unkempt, obnoxious Alaskan pilot who helps keep her father's charter plane company operational-can't imagine calling anywhere else home. And he's clearly waiting with one hand on the throttle to fly this city girl back to where she belongs, convinced that she's too pampered to handle the wild.
Jonah is probably right, but Calla is determined to prove him wrong. As time passes, she unexpectedly finds herself forming a bond with the burly pilot. As his undercurrent of disapproval dwindles, it's replaced with friendship-or perhaps something deeper? But Calla is not in Alaska to stay and Jonah will never leave. It would be foolish of her to kindle a romance, to take the same path her parents tried, and failed at, years ago.
It's a simple truth that turns out to be not so simple after all.

Addie Greyborne loved working with rare books at the Boston Public Library-she even got to play detective, tracking down clues about mysterious old volumes. But she didn't expect her sleuthing skills to come in so handy in a little seaside town...
Addie left some painful memories behind in the big city, including the unsolved murder of her fiancé and her father's fatal car accident. After an unexpected inheritance from a great aunt, she's moved to a small New England town founded by her ancestors back in colonial times-and living in spacious Greyborne Manor, on a hilltop overlooking the harbor. Best of all, her aunt also left her countless first editions and other treasures-providing an inventory to start her own store.
But there's trouble from day one, and not just from the grumpy woman who runs the bakery next door. A car nearly runs Addie down. Someone steals a copy of Alice In Wonderland. Then, Addie's friend Serena, who owns a nearby tea shop, is arrested-for killing another local merchant. The police seem pretty sure they've got the story in hand, but Addie's not going to let them close the book on this case without a fight...
Much Ado About Murder By: Elizabeth J. Duncan
Book 3 in the Shakespeare in the Catskills Series
Prologue To Murder By: Lauren Elliott
Goodreads also says this is the first book in the A Beyond The Page Bookstore Series. I am not sure which is truly the first book but I will also include the synopsis of this book.
Gossip columnists love a bold-faced name-but "Miss Newsy" at Greyborne Harbor's local paper seems to specialize in bald-faced lies. She's pointed a finger of suspicion at Addie after librarian June Winslow never makes it home from a book club meeting. And when June's found at the bottom of a steep flight of stairs, Addie's not only dealing with a busybody, but a dead body.
It's a good thing the guy she's dating is the police chief. but both the case and her love life get more complicated when a lanky blonde reporter from Los Angeles shows up. She's trying her hardest to drive a wedge between the couple...as if Addie doesn't have enough problems dealing with angry townspeople. Despite all the rumors, Addie doesn't know a thing about the murder-but she plans to find out. And the key may lie in a book about pirate legends that June published. Now she just has to hunt down the clues before she becomes a buried treasure herself...
Have you read any of these books? If so what did you think about them without spoilers?
